Together with Histon Road and Ascension, the two other Victorian cemeteries in the city, Mill Road Cemetery held an Open Day, celebrating all aspects of stone. FOMRC are very grateful to the City Council for their support for this event.
Tim Crawley, a local stone carver, demonstrated his work, as did Zoe Ansari, who works with lettering on stone.
There were tours about lichen, geology, stone masonry and inscriptions, together with pebble painting and story telling for children.
Parkside Orchestra entertained us magnificently despite a shower of rain.
The day ended with a concluding service led by Rev Margaret Widdess, Clerk to the Trustees. We were very pleased that the Mayor, Councillor Ian Nimmo-Smith, visited all three cemeteries and spoke highly of our work.
