By  1871 the Abbs family were living at 26 Magdalene Street and Frederick was working along side his family as a saddler/harness maker.  He married Honora Plane on 10 December 1876.

The couple lived at 23 James Street (1881) and then at 178 East Road (1891).  Frederick continued to work as a saddler/harnessmaker.   The couple had at least five children: Winifred (1891-1939), Ethel Harriett (1877-1919), Archibald William (1879-1955), Maggie Murray (1884-1904) and Bertie Plane (1888-1977).  Frederick died at East Road aged 46 years old.

Honora Elizabeth Abbs (née Plane) (7 April 1853 – 9 August 1901)

Honora was the daughter of William and Elizabeth (née Tann) Plane and was baptised on 5 June 1853 at St Andrew the Great Church.  Her father was a blacksmith and she grew up at 2 St Andrew’s Hill.  By the time she was 18 years old she was working as a machinist.  She married Frederick Abbs when she was 23 years.  She died less than eighteen months after her husband at 178 East Road.

*  – on some documentation her name is spelt Honoria, although the most commonly used has been used here.
