Frances was the daughter of Robert and Susan (née Smith) Flack and grew up at New Street (1881/1891) and 59 Beche Road (1901) . Robert was a fireman/stoker at the gas works and Susan was a laundress. In 1901 Frances was assisting her mother and working as a laundry maid. She married George Arnold the following year and they though to have had at least six children: Gladys Frances (1904-1976), Lily Eugenie (1908-1916), Doris May (1910-2003), Evelyn W (1912-1914), Ida K (1914-1919) and another yet unidentified child. George worked as a bricklayer’s labourer and the family lived at 85 New Street. She was widowed aged 37 years old and in 1939 was living at New Street with daughter Doris and was documented as being a charwoman.
George F. Arnold (1876 – 23 August 1917)
Little is known of George’s early life, as there were several men of the same name in Cambridge at the time. He died at 85 New Street and his age was marked as 41 years old on the death registration documentation.
Gladys Frances Barber (née Arnold) (11 July 1904 – 30 June 1976)
Gladys was the daughter of George and Francis and married Percy Barber in 1931. She died aged 71 years old and was buried on 7 July 1976.
Percy Frederick Barber (4 March 1902 – 29 January 1982)
Percy was born in Cherry Hinton and was the only son of William and Edith (née Longstaff). His father worked as a telegraph foreman for the Post Office and Percy grew up at 3 Marshall Road. He died at 120 Gwydir Street.
Doris May Arnold (15 October 1910 – 17 September 2003)
In 1939 Doris was living with her mother and working in the pudding department of a food factory. She remained living at 85 New Street until at least 1958 and died aged 92 years old.
