Harreit Ann Arnold (c.1835 -9 December 1907)

[although her name is inscribed as Harreit on the grave monument, she is always recorded as Harriet Ann in official documents through her lifetime]

Harriet was born in Cambridge and her first marriage was to Thomas Wheaton.  She had at least four children with Thomas: Noble [1860-1892], Clara Jane [1864-1882], Laura Harriet [1868-1947] and George Henry [1870-1898]. By 1871 she was a widow and living at 21 Ferry Path, where she worked as a launderess.

In the summer of 1872 she married for a second time to John Arnold, a ‘dairyman’ [sic].  Harriet and John had at least three children together  Walter George [1872-], Kate Louisa [1874-] and Mary Alice [1875-].  In 1881 the family were living at 39 Union Terrace [which later became Mawson Road].  In 1891  they were living at 18 Union Terrace, and when John died later that year, and Harriet was left a widow for a second time.

In 1901 she was living at 41 Perowne Street with her daughter Laura and her family. Harriet died in December 1907 aged 72 years old.

 

Clara Jane Wheaton (11 May 1864 – 14 January 1882)

Clara was the daughter of Thomas and Harriet Wheaton. She died aged 17 years old.

 

Noble Wheaton (29 September 1860 – 14 March 1892)

Noble was the eldest child of Thomas and Harriet Wheaton.  He was baptised on 3rd April 1870 when he was 9 years old. In 1881 he was living with his mother and step father at Union Terrace and working as a cook.  He married Clara Carpenter in 1885.

Clara and Noble had two children: Ernest Herbert P [1886-] and Leslie Horace [1890-1918].  In 1891 they were living at 2 Mawson Road, and Noble was working as a cook at Trinity College. He died at home at Mawson Road in March 1892 aged 31 years old.

Clara Wheaton remarried in 1894 to John O’Connor a professional cricketer. They went on to have a further four children together.  John died in 1936, and Clara in 1941.

Noble’s son Leslie Horace Wheaton died in World War I and is bureid at Pozieres Cemetery in Northern France.
