Thomas Barnard (4 January 1871 – 1 August 1955)
Thomas was the son of Thomas and Ann (née Buttress) and was born in Kentish Town, London. He was baptised on 17 July 1878 at St. Philip’s Church in Clerkenwell. His father was a carpenter/joiner and his parents had returned to live in their home town of Cambridge by at least 1891. Aged 20 Thomas was living with his parents in Hemingford Road and was working as a carpenter/joiner. He married Matilda Allen in 1893 and the couple had four daughters: Annie Beatrice (Beatrice) (1894-1957), Winifred May (1897-1977), Gladys Matilda (1905-) and Kate Ada (1907-1988).
They lived at 3 Priory Road (1901) and then at 73 Gwydir Street (1911 onwards). Daughters Winifred and Kate lived next door at 71 Gwydir Street (1939) and Thomas died at home aged 84 years old.
Sarah Matilda Barnard (Matilda) (née Allen) (7 February 1873 – 14 November 1957)
Matilda’s probate records show her date of death as 14 November 1957 which is different to the grave monument inscription
Matilda was the daughter of George and Ann Allen and grew up at 51 Panton Street (1881) and then 69 Russell Street (1891). Her father was a domestic groom/coachman and her mother worked as a launderess. Matilda died at 73 Gwydir Street aged 84 years old.
Annie Beatrice Barnard (Beatrice) (27 May 1894 – 3 May 1957)
Beatrice lived at home with her parents and on the records of 1939 was documented as being incapacitated. It is believed she died at Gwydir Street aged 62 years old.
Winifred and Kate Barnard later lived at 73 Gwydir Street, and Winifred died there in 1977, so it was continuously occupied by the Barnard family for at least 65 years.
