We were unable to uncover this large column that stands 2 rows east of the central path in the parish of Mary the Great, behind a yew tree. As far as we can tell it is still stable.

George Alfred Pleasance (1831 – 4 May 1868)

George was the son of William and Jane (née Butler) and grew up at 12 Rose Crescent where his father was a tobacconist.  He also worked as a tobacconist and after William’s death in 1861 took over the business. He died at 16 Green Street.

Eliza Harriet Barrett (20 April 1829 – 12 September  1877)

Eliza was the eldest daughter of William and Jane and was baptised on 10 May 1829 at Holy Sepulchre Church. She lived at Rose Crescent until her parents’ deaths.

In 1871 Eliza was living in Lambeth with her sister Clara, and  lodging with widow Eliza Burnham at 29 Stockwell Park Road. Both Eliza and Clara were noted as being annuitants.  She married draper  Frederick Barrett (1813-1885) on 6 December 1873 at St. Saviour Church, Ruskin Park, London and died in Great Yarmouth aged  48 years old (although her grave monument was transcribed as 46 years).

Fanny Pleasance (1841 – 13 November  1843)

Fanny  died aged 2 years old and was buried at St. Mary the Great Church on 17 November 1843.

Fanny Amelia Pleasance (1845 – 21 Aug 1849)

Fanny was baptised on 11 May 1845 and died aged 4 years.

Caroline Pleasance (1848 – 3 April 1852)

Caroline was baptised on 4 April 1852 at St. Mary’s Church and was buried four days later.

William and Jane Pleasance were also buried in the St. Mary the Great area of Mill Road Cemetery, and may have been buried in the same grave as their children.

William Pleasance (1802-17 December 1861)

William was born in Burwell and married Jane on 2 September 1828 in Grantchester. They had at least ten children: Eliza Harriett, George Alfred, Louisa Sarah (1834-), Clara Ann (1835-1912), Jane (1837-), Wiliam (1840-), Fanny, Edward (1843-1909), Fanny Amelia and Caroline. He died at Rose Crescent and was buried on 23 December 1861.

Jane Pleasance (née Butler) (1805-1 July 1868)

Jane was born in Fen Ditton and died at Rhadgund House, New Square aged 63 years old.
