Sacred to the Memory of ELIZA TRIPLOW BARSON d 26.12.1866 aged 54

Eliza Triplow Barson (1811 – 26 December 1866)

Eliza is believed to have been the daughter of James and Ann (née Triplow) Barson  and sister of George. She was baptised on 18 August 1811 at St Andrew the Great Church and her father was a stonemason.  In 1851 and 1861 she was working as a servant for widow Mary Ann Sharp at Bath Cottage, 48 New Square.  She died in December 1866 and the newspaper notice of her death announced ‘for upwards of thirty years the faithful and valued servant of Mrs Sharp’.

Her age when she died is a matter of some debate.  From her baptism date she was at least 55 years old, her grave monument reads 54 years old, and her death registration document recorded it as 50 years old.
