Thomas Bennett (1797 – 24 May 1876)
Thomas was the son of William and Martha Bennett and was baptised at St. Andrew the Great Church on 3 January 1798. He married Sarah Huckle at the same church on 4 October 1831 and the couple had two children: Rev. Alfred Robert (1837-1878) and Mary Elizabeth Sarah (1841-1938). The family lived at 10 Melbourne Place and Thomas worked as a college servant. When the 1871 census was taken he was described as a ‘late college servant’ so had clearly retired by this time. He died aged 79 years old.
Sarah Bennett (née Huckle) (1800 – 27 September 1883)
Sarah was born in Hilgay, Norfolk and married Thomas Bennett when she was c.30 years old. After she was widowed she lived at 10 Melbourne Place with her widowed daughter-in-law Annie. In 1881 they were both working as shirtmakers. She died at home aged 83 years old.
Both of their children married the children of fellow University servants Edward and Ann Peck.
