Jessie Bird (née Scott)  (1852 – 23 January 1930)

Jessie was born in Downham Market, Norfolk and was the daughter of James and Martha Scott.  Her father was a grocer and draper, and she grew up at Commerce Hall on Bridge Street where in 1861 her father was employing 13 people in his business.  She married Ernest Frederick Bird (1851-1888) on 15 March 1877 in Downham Market.  Ernest was a merchant and miller and the couple had two children: Florence Mary (1878-1974) and Walter Ernest.  Ernest died in December 1888 aged 38 years old.

By at least 1895 Jessie had moved to live at 77 Tenison Road in Cambridge with both her children.  On the 1901 census she was not noted as having any occupation. She died at home aged 77 years old.

Walter Ernest Bird (8 May 1881 – 5 April 1928)

Walter was the only son of Ernest and Jessie.  He was baptised in Donwham Market on 3 June 1881.  In 1901 he was living at Tenison Road and his occupation was noted as ‘catering syndicate club’. He lived with his mother Jessie, and is not believed to have married.  He died at home aged 46 years old.
