Edwin Russell Boness (c.1923 – 5 February 1924)

Edwin died aged 1 year old.

Gladys Mary Boness  (née Wye) (2 February 1891 – 25 October 1975)

Gladys was the daughter of Bertram and Ellen Louisa Wye and grew up on Norfolk Street. Her father was a ‘carman’ (deliveryman) for a grocery company and aged 20 Gladys was living at home and working as a tailoress. By the time she married the family were living at 4 Blossom Street.

She married Sidney Boness (1889-1980) on 19 August 1915 at Christ Church.  Sidney was a well known local footballer, and chose Gladys brother Private Ernest Wye as his best man.  Gladys was given away by her father and was said to have been ‘charmingly attired in a dress of white embroidered voile and a tuile veil with a wreath of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of tuberoses, white carnations, lily of the valley and white heather, the gift of the bridegroom’.

The couple were living at 33 Suez Road in 1939 and Sidney was working as a boiler washer for the LNER railway company. It is believed that Edwin was their only child.  Gladys died at 30 Leeway Avenue in Great Shelford aged 84 years old.  Sidney died at Leeway Avenue in February 1980.
