John Bright (c 1816 -1878)

John was born in Littlebury Essex, the son of Richard a shepherd. He married Elizabeth on 13th January 1842.

Elizabeth Bright (*née Northrop*) (1811 – 1902)

Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Sarah. She was born and brought up in Grantchester where in 1841 she was working as a family servant at 6 Annesley Place (now part of Panton Street).

* There is some confusion as to the spelling of Elisabeth’s maiden name as in the baptism register it looks like Nortrop, the marriage register NORTRIP and on the banns it is NORTHROP. When Sarah’s father died in 1827 his name was recorded as Northrop but in the 1841 census Sarah has given the name Nortrip. Only the transcripts have been used for this research.
