‘In Loving Memory of VALERIE JUNE CHAPMAN d 19 Aug 1942 aged 2 days’
Valerie June Chapman (17 August 1942 – 19 August 1942)
Valerie was the daughter of Valentine and Phyllis (née Parks) Chapman.
Valentine (1910-1980) was a Cambridge Botany graduate who subsequently took a Phd on the East Anglian salt marshes. He was Henry Fellow at Harvard University (1935-1936) and lecturer in Botany at the Victoria University of Manchester (1936-1937). He married Phyllis Claire Parks (1917 -1999 ) in Alcester on 23 June 1938. They lived in Cambridge from 1939 to 1946 as Valentine was research fellow at Gonville and Caius College and University demonstrator in botany. In 1939 the couple were living at 13 Brookside, and in 1945 at 12 Sedley Taylor Road.
Valentine and Phyllis had three sons and emigrated to New Zealand in 1946 where he had an illustrious academic career.
