Martha Charter (née Brown) (c.1855 – 1 April 1937)

Martha was born in Harpenden and was the daughter of Thomas. She married  William Charter on Christmas Day 1878 in Harpenden and they had two children: Beatrice (1882-1957) and Leonard Brown (1888-1960).  William worked as a carpenter/joiner and the family lived at 11 York Terrace (1881) and then at 77 Gwydir Street (1881 onwards).  Martha died at home aged 82 years old.

Thomas William Charter (7 November 1857 – 11 January  1940)

Known as William, he was was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Charter and was born in Steeple Morden.  Thomas Charter died when he was a young child and he was raised by his mother  who was a dressmaker. After he was widowed he went to live with  daughter Beatrice and her family at 101 Cherry Hinton Road (1939) and died there in 1940.
