This well preserved cross is on the boundary of the parish of St Mary the Great.

Inscription

Alfred Clark (21 December 1872 – 17 January 1945)

Alfred was born in Fulbourn and married Rosa Norton in Bury St Edmunds in 1897.  He worked on the railway and by 1911 was an engine driver.  The couple had at least four children: Dorothy May (1899-), Olive Laura (1905-1998), Frederick Norton (1907-1997) and Bertrum Alfred (1910-1931).  They  lived in Bury St Edmunds (1901), Sudbury (1911), 37 Ross Street and then 1 Orchard Estate (1939).  By 1939 Alfred had retired and he died aged 72 years old.

Bertrum Alfred Clark (1910 – 12 July 1931)

Bertrum was born in Sudbury and is thought to have drowned in the River Cam aged 20 years old.
