Midway between the west wall and the central path and about seven rows south of the north path. We have not yet found this monument and think it may be hidden in bushes. It is very close to the other Conway monument AS267 which we have also not been able to find.
Alfred Conway (1840 – 30 December 1873)
Alfred was the son of George and Ann Conway and was baptised at All Saint’s Church on 1 August 1841. His father was a tailor/robemaker and his mother was a college bedmaker. Alfred grew up on Park Street (1841) and then on Malcolm Street (at least 1851 onwards). Aged 21 he was living with his widowed mother and working as a tailor. He married Georgiana Cherry on 8 September at All Saint’s Church. The couple lived at 1 Cam Cottages in Chesterton and in 1871 Alfred was described on the census as a ‘lay clerk’ and tailor. Alfred and Georgiana had at least two children: Alfred George (1864-1911) and Georgiana Ellen (1872-1948). Alfred suffered from ill health and was admitted to Fulbourn Asylum on 19 April 1872, he died there in December 1873 aged 32 years old.
Alfred George Conway (31 May 1864 – 17 September 1911)
Alfred was baptised at All Saint’s Church on 14 August 1864. He grew up at Cam Cottages with his mother and sister, and then at 1 Water Street (1881), 1 Bridge Road (1891) and 1 Victoria Avenue (1901). He was working as an upholsterer’s apprentice aged 17, and continued to work as an upholster until at least 1901. He married Esther Jackson (1874-1961) in c.1904, and continued to live with his wife, his mother and sister at 1 Victoria Avenue. Alfred and Esther had one daughter: Marjorie (1906-1976), and in 1911 he was working as a newsagent, and noted on the census as being an employer. He died in September 1911 aged 47 years old.
Esther Conway married for a second time in 1915 to Charles William Johnson (1889-1956). She died at Addenbrookes Hospital in May 1961 aged 86 years old.
