Minnie Louisa Darling (née Swann) (25 February 1884 – 12 December 1961)
Minnie was the daughter of labourer Robert Swann and Polly Swann and grew up at 14 St. Peter’s Street. Aged 27, Minnie was living with her widowed mother at 71 Cambridge Place and was working in a sack factory. She married William Loynes in 1912 and they had at least three sons: William Frederick (1913-1913), William Arthur (1915-1997) and Private Alfred Frederick (1919-1943). The family lived at 17 Vicarage Terrace and Minnie was widowed at the age of 37. She married Frederick J Darling (1884-1940) in 1923. In 1939 she was still living at 17 Vicarage Terrace and was documented as being a college bedmaker.
William Frederick Loynes (c.1873 -4 October 1921)
William was the eldest son of William Frederick Loynes (1838-1912) and Alice (née Bullen)(1851-1940). His father was a brickalyer and he grew up at 4 Cauis Street (1881), 24 St. Matthew’s Street (1891) and 23 Vicarage Terrace (1901). William trained as a general smith, and in 1901 was working as a fitters mate. By 1911 he was working as a dealer in old clothes, and married Minnie Swann the following year. He died at 17 Vicarage Terrace.
