Charles Joshua Day (1862 – 30 April 1932)

Charles grew up at 151 East Road (1871/1881) and was the son of Joshua and Sarah Ann (née Speed).  His father was a wheelwright and aged 18 Charles was working as a milk seller. In 1891 he was still living at East Road and working as a ‘yard man’. He married Elizabeth Wilson (1864-1903) in 1892,  they lived at 48 Beche Road and in 1901 Charles was documented as being a butchers assistant.  He was widowed in 1903 and in 1905 married Minnie Jolley.  The couple settled at 35 Albert Street, where Minnie ran a  general shop, and Charles continued to work as a butcher’s labourer. The couple later moved to live at 16 Grafton Street (at least 1930 onwards) and Charles died at Addenbrookes Hospital aged 69 years old.

Minnie Sarah Day (née Jolley ) (16 November 1869 – 28 February  1957)

By 1901 she had returned to London to live with her mother Sarah, and stepfather Robert Shallow, before marrying widower Charles Day when she was 38 years old.  After his death continued to live at 16 Grafton Street and died at home aged 89 years old.
