The headstone is very badly eroded.
The parish register suggests the inscription should read as follows:
In Loving Memory of [UNA] DENNINGTON died Dec 20 1883 aged 63
Also GEORGE DENNINGTON [husband] of the above died  aged 79
Also SARAH second wife of the above died April 13 1905 aged 59 years
Una Dennington (née Hubbard) (11 May 1818 – 20 December 1883)
Una was born in Little Dunham, near Swaffham in Norfolk and baptised there on 31 May 1818. She was the daughter of George and Fanny and married George Dennington on 1 September 1847 in Banham, Norfolk. They had at least seven children all born in Norfolk: Ada Margaret Fanny (1848-), Arthur Frederick (1849-), Jane Elizabeth (1851-1931), Maurice George (1853-1951), Agnes Mary (1854-1941), Amelia Harriott (1856-1936) and Charles Edward (1858-). The family lived in Surlingham in Norfolk and George worked as a brickmaker before moving to live in Cambridge by at least 1871 where he also worked as a brickmaker (1871) and later as a coal merchant (1881). In 1871 George and Una were living at 24 Willow Place, Cambridge with three of their children. Una died in Caroline Place, Cambridge. Her age at death was recorded as 63 years old, but she was actually 65 years old.
George Dennington (1825 – 1 January 1906)
George was born in Claxton, Norfolk and baptised there on 5 November 1826. He was the son of brickmaker Job and his wife Mary.
George married widow Sarah Grant on November 5th 1886, at Cambridge register office. They lived at 9 Norfolk Street (1901) and then 9 Blossom Street. George died in hospital and was buried on 8 January 1906.
Sarah Dennington (née Northrop) (1847 – 13 April 1905)
Sarah was living in Blossom Street, Cambridge when she died. She is not buried in this grave but in the parish of Holy Sepulchre. For details of her grave, click here.
