ANNIE SARAH DOO born January 19th 1860 died June 5th 1939

Relationship: Sisters

Mary Emma Doo (18 July 1856 – 21 November 1933)

Mary was the eldest daughter of James and Mary Elizabeth Doo. She was born in Cambridge and baptised on 17th August 1856.

Her father was a grocer, and she grew up at 8 Trinity Street [1861 to at least 1888].  Thereafter they lived at 24 Green Street, where James Doo became the local rates collector.  Three of the Doo daughters lived with their parents until their deaths – Mary, Annie and Lilian.  Both Mary and Annie worked as teachers of music [1901/1911].  Lilian meanwhile was a milliner/seamstress.

Their father died in 1912, and their mother in 1913.  Mary is listed in the 1916 Kelly’s Directory as keeping apartments at 24 Green Street.  She and Annie were still resident there in 1927.  By 1930 the sisters had moved to 29 Orchard Street, Mary died there aged 77 years old.

Annie Sarah Doo (19 January 1860 – 5 June 1939)

Annie was Mary’s sister and the second daughter of James and Mary Elizabeth Doo. She too worked as a music teacher, and lived with her sisters Mary and Lilian for her entire life.

She died at 29 Orchard Street in 1939 aged 79 years old.

Lilian May Doo [17 January 1874 – 1 February 1947] was the third sister, and she lived with Mary and Annie.  She was a milliner, and later a seamstress at Addenbrookes Hospital. She served in the Women’s Army Auxiliary Corps during the 1st World War.  She appears on a shipping record sailing from Cape Town to Southampton in 1934, so clearly was a traveller and adventurer. She died at 29 Orchard Street in 1947.
