William Dunn (1857-1924)

William was the first child of William (a waiter) and Susan (née Shedd). He was baptised on 31st May 1857 at St Andrew’s Church Cherry Hinton. Soon after the family moved to Burleigh Place. His mother died in 1870 at the age of 39 when William was 12. (She is likely to be buried in the parish of St Andrew the Less, Mill Road Cemetery, but no grave marker has been found).  By 1871 William senior had moved to South Street with his six children. William was helping to support the family with his two brothers who were all errand boys. William’s aunt Mary Ann Dunn was also recorded on this census and she may have moved in to look after the three younger children. He remarried in 1875 and died in 1917.

When William married Mary Ann Ivett on January 2nd 1886, at the church of Andrew the Less, he was recorded as being a cabinet maker living in Perowne Street, Cambridge. The couple moved to Hope Street, Cambridge where they started their family.
