Mary Ann Eaton (née Shadbolt) (1854 – 29 September 1902)

Mary was the daughter of William and Mary and grew up at 111 Newmarket Road. Her father worked as a labourer and Mary worked as a servant at 25 Jesus Lane (1871) before moving to Woolwich by 1881 where she was documented as working as a domestic nurse for a shipping merchant and his wife. She married Henry Eaton (1856-1933) on May 5th 1884 at Cambridge Register Office. This was a double wedding with Henry’s brother Robert. They had at least six children: Ethel Nelly (1886-), Mary Beatrice (1887-1956), Jessie (1889-), Henry Charles, Henry Stanley and May Emily (1895-). Mary worked as a college servant, and Henry as a paper hanger and they lived at 1 Grafton Street.  Mary  died at Grafton Street – the death registration recorded her age as 45 years, the grave monument reads 49 years, and she was actually 48 years old.

Henry Charles Eaton (c.February 1891 – 17 June 1892)

Known as Charles, he died  aged 16 months old.

Henry Stanley Eaton (c. October 1892 – 10 November 1893)

Henry Stanley died aged one year old.

Mary’s husband Henry died at the  Mill Road infirmary in 1933 aged 75. He had been living in Kettles Yard in the parish of St Giles so was buried in the Ascension cemetery on Huntingdon Road.

Mary’s brother in law Robert Eaton and Sister in Law Emily Eaton are  also buried at Mill Road Cemetery.
