Ernest Ellwood (1871 – 6 May 1933)

Ernest was the son of James and Rachel Ellwood. He was baptised at Great Shelford Church on 20th October 1872.  His father was a carpenter/publican and he grew up at the Brewers Arms, 103 Gwydir Street [1881]. By 1891 his father had died and his mother was running the Brewers Arms with Ernest helping her as ‘publican’s assistant’.

He married Mary Ann Jenkins in 1894 and they lived at 71 Burleigh Street where he was a fish merchant [1901] and in 1911 the business had expanded to 70 and 71 Burleigh Street.  Mary and Ernest did not have any children and he died in May 1933.

Mary Ann Ellwood [nee Jenkins] (10 August 1871 – 24 June 1945)

Mary was born in Cambridge and married Ernest when she was 23 years old. She was widowed in 1933 when she was 61 years old.  She lived thereafter at 8 Christchurch Street, and was still living there when she died at Addenbrookes Hospital aged 73 years old.
