Emma Eve  (née Cole) (1841 – 21 April  1920)

Emma was born in Sandon, near Chelmsford, Essex and was baptised at St. Andrew’s Church, Sandon on 11 April 1841. She was the dauaghter of agricultural labourer John Cole and Elizabeth and aged 20 was working as a servant for widow Jane Wilkinson in Chelmsford (1861). She married George Eve and they had one son: Edward George (1874-1956) who was born in Great Baddow, Essex. In 1881 they were living in South Weald, near Brentford and George was working as  domestic coachman. By 1891 they had moved to Cambridge where they ran the Man in the Moon pub, Staffordshire Street for over thirty years. Emma died at the pub aged 78 years old and her funeral took place on 27 April.

George Eve (1845 – 1 April 1927)

George was born in Stock, a village near Chelmsford, Essex and baptised there on 18 March 1846.  He grew up in Stock  (1851) with his parents George and Ann and his father worked as an agricultural labourer.  By 1861 th family had moved to live in Buttsbury, near Billericay and George (snr) was working as an ‘earth burner’ and George (jnr) as an agricultural labourer. George died at the Mill Road Infirmary and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 5 April 1927.
