Margaret Ellen Fielding (née Nelson) (c.1868 – 6 February 1904)
Margaret was born in Portsmouth in Hampshire. She was the daughter of Matthew and Georgina Nelson and was born in to a military family. Her father was a Master Gunner in the Royal Artillery. In 1871 she was 3 years old and living in the barracks at Sandgate Castle in Kent. In 1881 the family were at the Southdown barracks in Gorleston in Suffolk. She married Percival Fielding in 1888 when she was 20 years old.
Margaret and Percival had at least three children: Gladys Constance (1893-), Percival Thorne (1895-1961) and Nelson Willie (1895-1915). Percival was also a professional solider, and they initially lived at the Cavalry barracks in Norwich. All their children were born in Norwich.
By 1900 however Percival had left the army and was the landlord of the Spread Eagle pub on Lensfield Road. Margaret died at Lensfield Road in 1904 aged 38 years old.
Percival Thorne Fielding (c.1859 – 10 May 1938)
Percival was born in Brighton. He was a soldier and married Margaret Nelson when he was 28 years old. After having been widowed, and married Kate Perry in 1905. He left the Spread Eagle pub in 1916 having managed it for over 16 years. He moved to Fen Drayton according to local reports. He died in St Neots aged 79 years old and was buried with his first wife back in Cambridge.
Kate Fielding (née Perry) (19 July 1872 – 13 January 1943)
Kate was born in Cambridge and was the daughter of police constable John Perry and his wife Mary Ann. She was baptised at the Primative Methodist Chapel on 10th January 1875. In 1881 she was living at 16 Queens Road with her parents. In 1891 she was a domestic servant to the Outram family at 2 Benet Place. In 1901 she was a housemaid at 9 Scrope Terrace to the Lyons family. She married Percival Fielding in 1905. They lived in Fen Drayton and St Neot’s.
In 1939 she was back living in Cambridge at 39 Coleridge Road. She died aged 70 years old at the home of her sister Nellie Bainbridge [nee Perry] who lived next door at 41 Coleridge Road.
