William Searle French (1845 – 19 February 1853)

William was the son of Caius porter Charles French.   His mother Mary Ann died in April 1849 when William was 4 years old.  In 1851 he was living at 39 Trinity Street with his widowed father and three siblings – Charles Hancock [1842-1878], Mary Ann [1843-] and Ann Amelia [1847-]. He died just before his eighth birthday.

Charles French continued to work at Caius College, and later lived at the Porters Lodge on Trinity Lane. He married his housekeeper Sarah Stevens in 1874, and they retired to Little Easton in Essex.  Charles’ daughter Mary Ann had moved to Little Easton with her family.  Charles died aged 92 years old and is buried in Little Easton.
