Emily Elizabeth Garner (née Pink) (1883 – 9 July 1937)

Emily was the daughter of Henry and Alice (née Stallan). Her father was a hawker and she grew up at 155 East Road. Aged eighteen Emily was working as a cook for Joseph Hinton and his extended family at 1 Park Terrace (1901). She married Sidney Garner on 26 December 1906 and they had at least one daughter: Elsie Elizabeth (1907-1956). Sidney worked for Great Eastern Railway as a gas fitter and they lived at 27 Catharine Street. Emily died at home aged 54 years old.

Sidney Charles Garner (18 November 1882 – 30 December 1957)

Sidney was the son of George and Mary Ann (née Northfield) and brother of  Harry. George Garner was a railway examiner and Sidney grew up on Cavendish Road.  He worked as a builder’s labourer (1901) and was conscripted to the army in June 1916.  After he was widowed he moved to live at 33 Hobart Road with daughter Elise, son in law Herbert Bell and Herbert’s father Herbert (1938 to at least 1957). In the records of September 1939 he was documented as a railway gas fitter.
