Gladys Victoria Gilbert (24 May 1903- 25 August 1917)

Gladys was the second child of Cornelius and Betsy Gilbert.  Her death was reported in the Cambridge Daily News on 31st August 1917:

The funeral of Gladys Victoria Gilbert, who died the age of 14 on August 25th, after a long illness, at the house of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Gilbert, of Antwerp House, Brookfields, Mill-road, took place at Mill-road Cemetery on Thursday afternoon. The Rev. C. Howard, vicar of St. Philip’s Church, officiated both the Cemetery Chapel and at the graveside, and in the course of the service in the chapel, in a short address, made sympathetic reference to Miss Gilbert, who had been for some years a scholar in St. Philip’s Sunday School. ….The coffin was of plain English oak. with brass handles, and the plate bore the following inscription: “Gladys Victoria Gilbert, died August 25th. 1917, aged years.” Amongst the many beautiful floral tributes were the following: Handsome white flowers cross, from Mum and Dad…’
