William Greenwood (8 December 1853 – 19 March 1944)
William was the son of Henry Barwell and Sarah Greenwood. He was born at Aston Farm Hall, Aston by Stone in Staffordshire on 8 December 1853. His father was a vicar. Aged 8 he was living at the Rectory in Caverswall, Staffordshire, and aged 18, he was living at the Rectory in Sutton-upon-Derwent in Yorkshire. He attended St Aidan’s School in Staffordshire.
He was admitted to Cambridge as a Non-Coll on 16 January 1879, a Clerk in Holy Orders, matriculating later that year before migrating to Corpus Christi College on 7 October 1879. He gained his BA in 1882 and MA in 1885.
He was ordained as a deacon in Winchester in 1876 and as a priest in Rochester in 1878. From 1876 to 1879 he was a curate at St Mary the Less in Lambeth, Surrey before moving to Cambridge where he was a curate at St Mary the Less until 1882. In 1881 he was living as a lodger at 43 Bateman Street.
He moved to St Andrew’s Wells Street, London from 1882 to 1886 as a curate. On 24th June 1883 he married Augusta Nicholl at St Andrews Church in Marylebone, London. Their son, Hubert Francis (1884-1950) was born in Marylebone. From 1886 to 1896 he was a vicar in Oakley, Buckinghamshire , where a daughter, Lilian Mary (1888-1973) was born. He then came back to Foxton in Cambridgeshire, serving as vicar from 1896 to 1907.
By 1911 the family were living at 2 Trumpington Street, in Cambridge. William’s occupation was described as Church of England Clergyman and they were living with two domestic servants. He was widowed in 1936 at the age of 82 years old. In 1939 he was still living at 2 Trumpington Street, being looked after by four domestic servants including a cook and a nursemaid.
He died at the Evelyn Nursing Home on Trumpington Road aged 90 years old. He left an estate valued at £11,037 6s, 5d.

Augusta Mary Greenwood [nee Nicholl]  (c.1855 -2 November 1936)

Augusta was born in London and was the daughter of Frederick Ilted and Eliza Nicholl. Her father was a solicitor and she grew up initially at 4 Marine Parade in Broadwater in Sussex. Her mother died when she was 12 years old and after that she moved to 120 Harley Street. In 1871 she was living with her father, three siblings and six domestic servants [including a butler, footman and ladies maid] at Harley Street.

She married William Greenwood when she was 28 years old, and was a Vicar’s wife for the rest of her life.  She died at 2 Trumpington Street at the age of 81 years old. She left an estate valued at £8,764 8s.

William and Augusta’s son Hubert Francis Greenwood  moved to Los Angeles where he was an actor, best known for his role in the Prince and the Pauper [1937]
