Ernest William Hall (26 February 1882 – 10 November 1939)

Ernest was the son of  William and Emma and grew up at 21 Trafalgar Street.  His father worked as a college cook (1891/1901)  and aged 19 Ernest was working as a railway clerk. He married Alice Frost  on 9 August 1906  at Old Chesterton Church.  Alice wore a dress ‘of cream crepoline with veil and orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of roses and lillies of the valley’.  The service was fully choral and the couple spent their honeymoon in Scarborough.  They had two children: Ivy Rose (1909-1999) and William Walter (1915-1942) and lived at 23 Ross Street (1911) then at 3 Trafalgar Road.   Ernest worked as a clerk in the engineering department of L.N.E.R. and died at home aged 57 years old.

The funeral took place at All Saints’ Church on 13 November and the announcements in the Cambridge Daily News said he had ‘passed peacefully to rest….no mourning’.

Rose Alice Hall  (née Frost) (6 September 1880 – 22 January  1946)

Rose was the daughter of Walter and Mary Ann Frost and sister of Lily.  She  grew up at 29 Brunswick Street and her father was a college servant.  Rose was still living at Trafalgar Road in 1946 but died at her daughter’s home in Clarendon Street.
