Inscription

Dudley Hart (c.1795 – 4 June 1868)

Dudley was the son of Thomas and Anna Hart.  He was born in Fressingfield in Suffolk [a village 12 miles east of Diss]. He married Louisa Borrett in Cambridge on 15th October 1828.

They had at least eight children together: Rev Dudley [1829-1906], Charles Thomas [1830-1890], Louisa [1834-], Emma [1836-1923], Alfred [1840-], Thomas [1840-], Anna [1844-] and Ellen Agnes [1851-1928].

Dudley was a ‘perfumerer and hair cutter’. At first he seems to have run a shop jointly with Charles Pratt, under the name of Pratt & Hart. But partnership was dissolved ‘by mutual partnership’ on 29th August 1836 and Dudley Hart ran the business on his own thereafter.  He had a shop at 37 Trinity Street [1851] and later at 7 Trinity Street [1861].  He died aged 73 years old, and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 8th June.

Louisa Hart [nee Borett] (1807 – 31 July 1865)

Louisa was the daughter of George and Anne Borrett.  She was born in Cambridge and baptised at St Sepulchre’s Church on 20th September 1807. She married Dudley Hart when she was 20 years old.

She died aged 58 years old. The Cambridge Chronicle and Journal reported that she died at Trinity Street and that her death was ‘very sudden’.  She was buried on 3rd August 1865.
