also of ELIZA MARIA HAYES died Dec . 19 . 1882 aged 67 years.

Mary Petterson (c.1771 – 17 March 1849)

[NB – the surname was spelt Peterson during her lifetime, it is not known why it was spelt with two ‘T’s’ on the grave monument]

Little is known of Mary’s life.  She married William Phillips and had two children: Eliza Maria and John (1816-) both of whom were born in Essex.  After she was widowed she is thought to have married Andrew Peterson (1868-1824) and moved to live in Cambridge.  In 1841 she was living with her chidren at Nine Pin Court and was documented as being a college servant.

Eliza Maria Hayes (née Phillips) (1815 – 19 December 1882)

Eliza was born in Holloway Down, near Stratford in Essex and in 1841 was also working as a college servant.  She married Henry Hayes (1818-1890) on 21 December 1845 and they had one son: James Akerman (1849-1889). Henry was a cook and they lived at  2 Foundry Yard, Bridge Street (1851/1861) and then Belvoir Cottage, Histon Road (at least 1871 onwards). Eliza died at Belvoir Cottage aged 67 years old.
