Emily Jane Hazzard (née Poulter) (1865 – 4 June 1926)
Emily was the daughter of brewery drayman George Poulter and his wife Esther. She grew up at 7 Auckland Road and by the age of 15 was working as an apprentice dressmaker. She married Harry Edward Hazzard (1867-1945) in 1888 when she was 22 years old. Harry was a college chef /kitchen manager, and the couple lived at 203 Mill Road. They had four children: Elsie Louisa (1890-1977), Constance Lilian(1893-1978), Victor Bertram (1895-1968) and Beryl Winifred (1904-1982).
Emily ran her own dressmaking business from home and advertised in local newspapers of the time. An advert from 1901 read ‘Mrs Hazzard, Ladies’ and Children’s DRESSMAKER; moderate charges. – 203, Mill Road, Cambridge’. She died at home aged 60 years old.
Harry Hazzard married for a second time in 1932 to Sarah Topham (1892-). They moved to live at 281 Cherry Hinton Road and he died there aged 77 years old.
