Esau Howe (1849-1915)
Esau was born in 1849 in Swaffham Bulbeck, Cambridgeshire. He was one of four children born to Imri Howe (c.1815-1886) and Rhoda Howe (formerly Aves, née ?) (c.1811-1887). By 1871 Esau had left home and was living as a boarder at 3 Auckland Road, Cambridge. By 1881 Esau was working as a plate layer. Esau married Elizabeth Brooks (née Miller) in 1883 in Cambridge. They had a son, Ernest Frederick (1885-?). By 1891 the family was living at 24 Newmarket Road, Cambridge. Esau was working as a railway shunter. By 1901 the family was living at 24 Sun Street, Cambridge. By 1911 the family was living at 60 Newmarket Road, Cambridge. Esau died on 16 February 1915 in Cambridge.
Elizabeth Howe (c.1842-1921)
Elizabeth was born in about 1842 in Chrishall, Essex. She was one of seven children born to Breens Miller (c.1806-1891) and Phoebe Miller (née Rogers) (c.1808-1890). In 1851 the family was living at Hogsden Lane, Chrishall. Elizabeth’s father was a Parish Clerk and agricultural labourer. Elizabeth married Isaiah Brooks (1842-1875) in 1866 probably in Chrishall as Isaiah also grew up there. They had two children : Elizabeth Ann (1866-1953) and Albert Edward (1871-1951). By 1871 the family was living at 30 Wellington Street, Cambridge. Isaiah was working as a brewer’s labourer and Elizabeth was working as a dressmaker. Isaiah died in Cambridge in 1875. By 1881 Elizabeth and her children were living at 24 Sun Street, Cambridge. Her daughter was working as her apprentice. In 1883 Elizabeth remarried Esau Howe (1849-1915) in Cambridge. They had a son, Ernest Frederick (1885-?). Elizabeth died on 12 May 1921 in Cambridge. Her last known address was 41 Abbey Road, Cambridge. Her daughter, Elizabeth junior, was also buried in this Cemetery together with her husband, Samuel Noble (1868-1917).
