In Affectionate Remembrance of REBECCA JACOBS d 28 Jan 1946 age 91

Rebecca Jacobs (1854 – 28 January 1946)

Rebecca was born in Stretham, a village four miles south west of Ely and was the daughter of labourer John and Rebecca (née Money) Jacobs.  In 1871 she was working at Wentworth Terrace, Huntingdon Road as a general servant, and later worked in Paddington as a cook (1881).  By at least 1911 she had returned to Cambridge and was running a Lodging House at 1 Hoop Chambers, 4 Bridge Street.  She remained at Bridge Street until 1915 and then moved to run a Lodging House at 23 Malcolm Street. She died at home aged 91 years old and newspaper announcements of her death read ‘devoted member of St. Clement’s congregation and friend to many generations of undergraduates’.
