JANE JENNINGS d July 20 1892 aged 79

Jane Willings Jennings  [nee Farnham] (1814 – 20 July 1892)

Jane was the daughter of John and Jane Farnham.  She was born in Great Shelford and baptised there on 11th October 1814.  She married James Jennings on 20th November 1835 at Little Shelford.  By 1841 they were living at Brooklands, and James was working as a labourer.  They were still there in 1851, but James was by then working as a gardener.

James and Jane had two daughters: Jane and Catherine, both of whom are buried with their mother in this grave. James died in 1878, by which time they were already living at 5 Thompson’s Lane.    She was living there with both daughters in 1881.  By 1891 Jane was living at 4 Nine Pin Court with a boarder named Arthur Smith, she was being supported by parish relief.   She died aged 77 years old.

Jane Elizabeth Jennings (c.1847 – 17 October 1863)

Jane was the eldest daughter of James and Jane Jennings. She was born in Little Shelford, and baptised there on 18th April 1847.  She died aged 16 years old in 1863.

Catherine Louisa Jennings (d1849 – 22 March 1890)

Catherine was baptised Catherine Louisa [sic] on 23rd September 1849, so the engraving on the stone is an error in spelling.  She worked as a milliner and had two daughters which she raised as a single mother: Elizabeth Mary [1870-1941] and Catherine Margaret (known as Kate) [1879-1956].  She and the girls lived with her widowed mother at 5 Thompson’s Lane.  She died in 1890 which would have made here at least 40 years old, rather than the 39 years engraved on her grave monument.
