Joseph  (Joe) Jordan  (10 May 1886 –  10 January 1935)

Joe was born and raised at Pound Yard, Great Shelford and was the son of John and Catherine (née Arnold).  His father worked as an agricultural labourer/horsekeeper and by the age of 15 Joe was working as a farm labourer. He later went to work as a cleaner on the railway (1911) and lodged at 100 Thoday Street. Joe married Alice King on 12 June 1913 at St. Phillip’s Church and they had at least two sons: Joseph Douglas John (1914-1986) and Harold George (1915-1981). They lived at 42 Hobart Road and Joe died at home aged 48 years old.

Alice Emma Jordan (née King)  (10 April 1881 – 15 May 1938)

Longmeads House, Writtle

Alice was born in Great Waltham and baptised at St. Mary and St. Lawrence Church on 5 June 1881. She was the daughter of George and Elizabeth and her father was an agricultural labourer. In 1911 Alice was working as a housemaid at Longmeads, Writtle before marrying Joe Jordan when she was 32 years old. She died in Cambridge aged 56 years old.
