The grave is of the three infant daughters of Joshua and Catherine Augusta King.

Joshua (1836-1927) was the eldest son of Joshua and Mary King. His father was Lucasian Professor of Mathematics (1839-1949) and then President of Queen’s College. Joshua (Jnr) studied at Trinity Hall and joined the Indian Civil Service in 1859.  He married Rosetta Heath Jary (1835-1862) on 16 August 1860 in Burlingham, Norfolk and the couple moved to live in Ahmedabad, India. Rosetta died of nephritis on 24 August 1862 three weeks after the birth of their only child Joshua Theodore (1862-1863).  Joshua Thodore died aged 11 months old also of a kidney disease and was buried in Ahmedabad on 25 July 1863.

Joshua married for a second time to Catherine Augusta Simpson (1847-1919) at St. Thomas Cathedral, Mumbai.  (NB – She later changed the spelling of her name to Katherine).  Katherine was born in Rajkot, Gujarat and was  the daughter of Major Henry Edward Simpson (1820-1860) and his wife Emma (née Bruce).  Joshua and Katherine had four daughters: Edith Mary, Rosa Constance (1871-1934), Stella Katherine and Mabel Margaret.

Joshua workedin Mumbai as Assistant collector, Magistrate and Under-Secretary to the Government, he also worked as Senior Collector, Magistrate and Political Agent at Sarata (1884) and retired in 1886.  Joshua, Katherine and Rosa then returned to live in Kensington (1891), Frimley (1901/1911) before eventually settling in Bath.  Katherine King died in Bath in 1919, and Joshua in April 1927 agd 90 years old.  Both are buried at Locksbrook Cemetery in the city.

Edith Mary King (30 September 1868 – 20 April 1871)

Edith was born at 1 St. Peter’s Terrace, Cambridge which was the home of her maternal grandmother Mary King.  She died aged 2 years old at St. Peter’s Terrace.

Stella Katherine King (1873 – 30 July 1875)

Stella was also born at St Peter’s Terrace and died there aged 21 months old.

Mabel Margaret King (11 May 1877 – 23 July 1880)

Mabel was born in Ahmadabad and was baptised there on 3 June 1877.  She died aged 3 years old and was buried in Ahmadabad.
