Charles and Helen were the children of Herbert Mortimer and Margaret Emma Luckock. Herbert Mortimer Luckock (1833-1909) was born in Great Barr, Staffordshire and was the son of Rev. Thomas Mortimer. Herbert went to school at Shrewsbury and then Marlborough before going up to Jesus College Cambridge in 1854. He was vicar of All Saints church from 1862-1863 and then again from 1865-1875. He also lectured in Classics, Hebrew and Divinity at the same time.
He married Margaret Emma Thompson (1844-1890) in Liverpool on 5 April 1866. They had eight children: Margaret Evelyn (1867-1951), Charles Herbert Mortimer, Helen May, Alice Mortimer (1870-1948), Edward Henry Mortimer (1871-1963), Beatrice Irene (1875-1947), Major General Russell Mortimer (1877-1950) and Rev. Arthur Mortimer (1880-1968).
Herbert became Canon of Ely (1875-1892) and then Dean of Lichfield (1892-1909). Margaret Luckock died in Ely in November 1890 aged 46 years old and is buried at Beech Lane Cemetery in Ely. Herbert died at the Deanery in Lichfield aged 75 years old. He is commemorated both in All Saints Church and Lichfield Cathedral.
Charles Herbert Mortimer Luckock (12 April 1868 – 12 April 1868)
Charles was the eldest son of Herbert and Margaret Luckcock.
Helen May Luckock (17 May 1869 – 1 June 1871)
Helen was the second daughter born to Herbert and Margaret. She was baptised at All Saints Church on 4 July 1869. In the census of 1871 she was living at Newnham House with her parents and sisters Margaret and Alice. The family appear to have lived a comfortable life, with four servants including two nursemaids to look after them. Helen died of whooping cough just after her second birthday.
