Relationships Sarah & Hannah were the 1st 2 wives of William Mason.

Sarah Mason (née Powell) (1854 – 1882)

Sarah was the daughter of Benjamin Richard, a stonemason, and Mary Ann Powell and brought up in Ely. She was the first wife of William George Mason, a builder. After their marriage on 25th August 1874 they lived in Coronation Street, Cambridge. William was a builder. They had at least three children: Sidney (b 1878), Percy (b 1879) and Agnes Mary (b 1880).

Percy Stewart Mason (1879 – 1881)

Percy was the son of Sarah and William George Mason. He was just 2 years old when he died at the family home in Coronation Street, Cambridge.

Hannah Mason (née Powell) (c1862 – 1894)

Hannah was the second wife of William George Mason. She was born in Ely and it is thought she was the younger sister of Sarah and that she married William in Islington in 1883. In 1891 she was living with her husband and two stepchildren at 36 Tenison Road, Cambridge. She and William had three children:  Helen (b 1884), Gertrude (b 1887) and William G (b 1890).

After Hannah’s death William married for a third time and the 1901 census finds him back in Coronation Street with his new wife Adelaide and the three children born to Hannah. Later he moved to Grantchester and he and Adelaide are buried in St Marks churchyard.

This grave is connected to that of William’s father and baby brother which is one row to the west. William Mason
