Caroline Mayne (née Rainbird) (c.1834 – 10 September 1889)
Caroline was born in Kelveden Hatch, Essex and was the daughter of agricultural labourer George and his wife Ann. She married George Mayne in Maidstone, Kent on 3 June 1860 and the couple had at least three children: Elizabeth Ann (1861-1946), Caroline Alice (1862-1893) and George Frederick William (1869-1930). George worked as a gas fitter and later as a gas fitters foreman. The family lived at Bower Place, Maidstone (1861), Little Wellington Street, Aldershot (1871) before settling at 41 Sidney Street, Cambridge (1881). Caroline died aged 55 years.
Caroline Alice Mayne (1862-15 April 1893)
Known as Alice, she was born in Maidstone and died at 41 Sidney Street aged 30 years old.
George Frederick Mayne (c.1836 – 22 August 1915)
George was born in Illogan, Cornwall, a village two miles north of Redruth. He was the son of William and Elizabeth, and his father worked as a coastguard. He married Caroline Rainbird when he was c.24 years old. After being widowed he married for a second time to widow Sarah Dixon (née Wales)(1844-1924) in 1893. They lived at 9 St. John’s Road and by 1911 George had retired and Sarah was running a Lodging House from the address. He died at home aged 79 years.
