The monument in October 2021.

This broken column stands 2 rows south of the north path in the parish of All Saints. Nothing remains of the inscription. It is in the same row as 2 other family monuments (Boning) roughly 9 rows from the west wall.

Harriett Merry (née Dyer) (1804 – 12 December 1877)

Harriet was the daughter of John and Mary Rose and was baptised on 6 May 1804 at St. Clement’s Church.  She married John Merry on 27 November 1831 also at St. Clement’s.  They had at least four children: Ann (1832-), Charles Robert (1834-), Jane (1836-1918) and John Edward (1838-1911).  The family lived at  White Bull Yard (1841) and 11 Malcolm Street (1851 onwards), John worked as a carpenter and Harriett as a college bedmaker.  She died at home aged 72 years old.

John Merry (9 February 1806 – 21 June 1888)

John was born in Orwell and was the son of John and Ann. After he was widowed he continued to live at Malcolm Street and died there in 1888.

Ann Merry (2 April 1832 – 5 January 1911 )

Ann was the eldest child of John and Harriet and was baptised on 8 April 1832 at St. Clement’s Church.  She lived at home with her parents and ran a lodging house from 11 Malcolm Street after their deaths.  She was still running the lodging house in 1908 and then moved to live at 5 Haymarket Road.  Ann died aged 78 years old  at 11 Pembroke Street.
