Monument Located under trees and bushes 4 rows east of the west path. Behind the large columns of Rowton & Barker. The headstone is intact and the carved inscription legible at the top but eroding at the bottom.

Hugh Mitchell (1843 – 1 December 1905)
Hugh was born in Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire. He was the son of Stephen and Margaret Mitchell, and his father worked as wool weaver, and later as a silk weaver. Aged 18 in 1861 he was living with his family at Candle House, Steeple Square, Kilbarchan.
He married Sophia Clarke at St Paul’s church, Cambridge on 9th October 1875. They had ten children together: Stephen Hugh [1877-1943], Charles Arthur [1878-], Frederick Ernest [1880-1967], Alexander Thomas [1882-1967], Margaret Emma Jane [1884-1967], Kate [1885-], Elizabeth [1886-], George Staffurth [1887-], Sophia Jane [1890-1971] and Alexander (known as Alick)[1896-]
Hugh worked as a railway carriage examiner until he was c50 years old. By 1901 he was living at 92 Norfolk Street, and was a newsagent. He died in December 1905 aged 62 years.
Sophia Jane Mitchell [nee Clarke] (20 May 1852 – 11 July 1942)
Sophia was born in Cambridgeshire and was the daughter of Charles and Frances Clarke. Charles was a watchmaker, and in 1861 the family were living in St Ives. She married Hugh Mitchell at St Paul’s Church. The family lived in Creek Road in March  and then Station Road in March . When Hugh changed jobs to become a newsagent they appear to have moved to Cambridge, and lived in Norfolk Street.
After Hugh’s death Sophia continued to run the newsagent, and on the 1911 census she was still living at 92 Norfolk Street. Aged 87 years old in 1939 she was living at White House, Ramsey Road, St Ives, Cambridgeshire with her daughter Sophia Jane and a companion. She died at 105 Richmond Road, Cambridge, leaving effects of £154 12s and 9d.
Hugh and Sophia’s eldest three sons all emigrated to Canada.
- Stephen Hugh Mitchell[1877- 2 June 1843] married Agnes and died in Saskatoon, Seskeatchewan.
- Charles Arthur Mitchell emigrated to Vancover
- Frederick Ernest Mitchell [12 May 1880 – 2 October 1967] married Dora Loveday Campbell and died in Vancover
