James Mony (c.1826 – 23 September 1888)

James was born in Morpeth in Northumberland and was the son of James Mony.  He married Ann Oram  at St Philip’s Church in Birmingham on 20th February 1851.  James and Ann had at least eight children:  Sarah Ann [1852-], Emma Jane [1854-1908], James Henry [1855-1936], Charles [1858-1936], Julia Laura [1860-1930], Samuel Ernest [1862-], Selina [1863-1958] and Ellen Isabella [1865-1931].

Their daughters Sarah and Emma were born in Fletton in Huntingdon, but by 1858 they were living in Cambridge.  James worked as a railway engine driver for Great Eastern Railway.  The family lived at 12 Mill Road [1861], 53 Gwydir Street [1871] and then at 178 Gwydir Street [1881].  James died at his home in Gwydir Street in 1888 aged 62 years old.

Ann Mony [nee Oram] (c.1825 – September 1903)

Ann was the daughter of shoemaker George Oram and his wife Rebecca.  She was baptised at St Martin’s Church in Birmingham on 18th January 1825, and was raised in Birmingham. She married James Mony when she was around 25 years old.

After his death she moved to 53 Sturton Street, and was running a general store there in 1891. In 1901 she was living at 48 Regent Street, and was stated as ‘living on own means’.  She died in 1903.

Selina Mony (8 June 1863 – 11 April 1958)

Selina grew up on Gwydir Street, and in 1891 was helping her mother run the store in Sturton Street.  By 1901 she was living at Grape House in Granchester, and was working as a  private hospital nurse to the family of George Sherwood.  In 1905 she was enrolled on the Midwifery Roll, by virtue of having practiced as a midwife for so many years.

In the 1911 census she was living with her widowed sister Ellen at 150 Hill Road.  Ellen was running a tobacconist shop at the location, and Selina was noted as a certified nurse. She lived at 150 Hills Road until at least 1930. From at least 1935 until 1945 she was living at 311 Cherry Hinton Road, and the census of 1939 records her as a retired nurse.  In 1950 and 1955 she was recorded as living at 30 Rathmore Road in Cambridge.  She died at 38 Station Road in New Barnet, Hertfordshire aged 94 years old.

Emma Jane Mony (1854 – 12 May 1908)

Emma was born in Fletton, near Huntingdon. She was baptised on 26th March 1854.  In 1881 she was 27 years old and and working as a cook in Beckenham.  She died in 1908 at 110  Hills Road in Cambridge.
