Jane Negus [nee Wright] (c.1843 – 3 April 1907)
Jane was born in Melbourn and was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Wright. She grew up in Melbourn, where Thomas Wright was a farm labourer. In 1861 aged 18, she was working as a servant in Meldreth.
She married Ellis Negus in Melbourn on 14th November 1863. Jane and Ellis had at least three children: Harry William [1868-1919], Charlotte Jane [1873-1959] and Thomas Ellis [1880-1900].
Ellis was an agricultural worker and they lived on Drury Lane in Melbourn [1871/1881], then Madingley Road . By 1895 the family were living at 1 Stockwell Street and Ellis worked as a gardener. Jane died at Stockwell Street in 1907 aged 63 years old.
Thomas Ellis Negus (1880 – 13 May 1900)
Thomas was the youngest son of Jane and Ellis Negus. He was born in Melbourn and died at 1 Stockwell Street aged 19 years old.
Ellis Negus (1841 – 1 January 1920)
Ellis was the son of William and Mary Anne Negus. He was born in Clavering in Essex, and baptised at St Mary and St Clement in Clavering on 5th December 1841. By the age of 20 he was living in Melbourn and working as an agricultural worker like his father William. In his early 50’s he changed career and became a gardener. He died aged 78 years old on New Years Day 1920.
