Monument

This monument, in the parish area of St Andrew the Great, is located under the Deodar Cedar tree to the left of the path just north of the centre circle. The cross has fallen and is not visible.

Inscription

‘In Memoriam ELLEN GRACE beloved wife of GEORGE HENRY NICHOLS
born June 8. 1872. died Aug 2. 1894.’

Ellen Grace Nichols (1872-1894)

Ellen was the eldest child of William and Ellen Dewberry. She was baptised in the parish of All Saints. On the 8th of August 1893 she married George Henry Nichols in the same church. George was an insurance inspector. After the wedding they lived at 14 Brunswick Place, which is where Ellen died at the age of 22.
