Mary Ethel (Meg) Papworth (née White) (c.October 1870 – 23 January 1927)
Meg was born in Guilden Morden, a village 16 miles south west of Cambridge and 9 miles west of Royston. She was the daughter of horsekeeeper Isaac and straw plaiter Ann and grew up in Guilden Morden. Aged 20 she was working at 96 Hills Road for builder Herbert Thoday and his wife Elizabeth. Meg was working as cook, and her sister Emily was housemaid in the same household. She married joiner/carpenter George Papworth in 1894 and they had two daughters: Emily Gladys (1896-1981) and Ada Ellen (1907-1992). The family lived at 60 Hills Road (1901) and 68 Norwich Street (at least 1911 onwards). Meg died at home aged 56 years old and was buried at Mill Road Cemetery on 26 January 1927.
George Papworth (20 July 1870 – 24 February 1952)
George was the son of Charles and Selina Papworth and grew up in the village of Sutton, eleven miles east of Bedford. His father was a carpenter, and George worked as the same. After Meg’s death he lived at 68 Norwich Street with his two daughters, neither of whom married (1939).
