The monument, in the parish of St Mary the Great, is largely covered by vegetation.


Henry Parish (1862 – 3 March 1935)

Henry was the son of Henry and Eliza (née Gray) and was baptised at St. Paul’s Church on 27 July 1862. He grew up at 81 Cambridge place and his father worked as a railway engine driver. By 1881 Henry was working as a builder’s labourer, but later worked as a railway fireman (1891) and railway engine driver (at least 1901 onwards.

He married Alice Rumsky in 1886 and they had two children: Arthur Henry (1887-1953) and Alice Selina May (1889-1892).  The family lived in Saffron Walden where daughter Alice died aged 2 years old, and then at 23 Thoday Street (1901) and 50 Cavendish Road (1911).

Alice Ann Parish (née Rumsky)  (26 May 1858 – 10 December 1949)

Alice was born in Feltwell, Norfolk but little is known of her early life.  In 1939 she was living at 80 Cavendish Road and died aged 91 years old.
