Benjamin Powell (1850 – 12 September 1907)
Benjamin was born in Ely and baptised at St. Mary’s Church on 29 December 1850. He was the son of stonemason Benjamin Richard Powell and his wife Mary Ann. In 1871 he was working as a stonemason in Litlington on the Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire boarder and lodging with Thomas and Lucy Randall. He married Sarah Wilderspin on 4 March 1896 at St. James’ Church, Islington. In 1881 the couple were living on Histon Road before later moving to 47 Great Eastern Street (1891). Benjamin married for a second time in 1892 to Maria Ann Mudd (1855-1930) and they lived at 145 Catherine Street. When the census of 1901 was taken Benjamin was lodging in London, and he died at home in Cambridge in September 1907.
Maria Powell is also believed to be buried in Mill Road Cemetery.
Sarah Ann Powell (née Wilderspin) (1850 – 29 June 1891)
Sarah was born in Welches Dam, near Mepal and was the daughter of bailiff John and Sarah Wilderspin. She died aged 40 years old.
