Annie Smart (née Ling) (c.1858 – 23 February 1934)
Annie was born in Fordham and was the daughter of Isaac and Mary. Her father worked as an agricultural labourer and later as a farmer, farming 4 acres (1881). Annie married widower Alonzo Smart at Manchester Cathedral on 10 June 1886 and they had two children: Dorothy Mary (1888-1967) and Robert Arthur (1890-).
In 1891 they were living in Salford, where Alonzo was a grocer and joiner. They then moved to Pendleton, near Clitheroe in Lancashire (1901) where they also had a grocery store before moving to Cambridge to run the White Swan pub on Mill Road (1911). By 1920 they were no longer running the White Swan and were living at 33 Mill Road. Annie died aged 75 years old.
Alonzo Smart (19 August 1851 – 12 March 1938)
Alonzo was born in Fordham like his wife and was the son of Robert and Sarah. He grew up on Market Street in Fordham and in 1871 was working as a carpenter like his father Robert. He married Letitia Daniels (1853-1882) on 13 May 1880 at St. John’s Church, Manchester. They lived on Manchester Street in Salford, and Alonzo worked as a joiner (1881). He was widowed after two years of marriage and then married Annie Ling.
After he was widowed Alonzo lived with his daughter Dorothy and son in law at 33 Mill Road, but died at the Devonshire Nursing Home on Tenison Avenue aged 86 years old.
Dorothy Mary Pratt (née Smart) (4 March 1888 – 30 July 1967)
Dorothy was born in Salford and in 1911 was assisting her parents in running the White Swan. She married Frederick Thomas Pratt (1890-1957) in 1924 and the couple lived at 33 Mill Road until their deaths. Dorothy died at the Hope Nursing Home aged 79 years old.
Frederick Thomas Pratt (25 May 1890 – 25th December 1957)
Frederick was born in Cambridge worked as a clerk for the Post Office. He died at Addenbrooke’s Hospital aged 67 years old.
