Simeon Pratt (1803 – 21 March 1872)
Simeon was born in Granchester and baptised there on 18 December 1803. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Pratt and married Edith Desborough (1799-1841) on 21 February 1827. They had at least six children: Elizabeth (1827-1888), Edward (1829-), Rebecca (1832-1923), Anne (1834-), Emily (1837-) and Emma Ann (1838-1916). In 1838 the family were living in a ‘timber and tiled cottage near the Blue Ball public house’ in Granchester and Simeon worked as an agricultural labourer. Edith Pratt died in early 1841, and by 1851 he was living at 10 Caroline’s Place, Presses Garden, Cambridge with daughters Rebecca and Emily. He later went to live at 2 Provident Court with daughter Rebecca. In 1861/1871 he was described on the census as a labourer, and Rebecca was a charwoman. Simeon died at Provident Court aged 69 years old.
