Monument
This headstone in the parish of Andrew the Less stands midway between the central path (15 rows east) and the east path (12 rows west). The inscription on the east face is very hard to see now. The inscription for Simeon is clearly died 1871 but the burial register gives a date of burial in 1872 and an age of 62 – this may be a transcription error.

Relationship: Father and three daughters
Simeon Pratt (1803 – 21 March 1872)
Simeon was born in Grantchester and baptised there on 18 December 1803. He was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Pratt and married Edith Desborough (1799-1841) on 21 February 1827. They had at least six children: Elizabeth (1827-1888), Edward (1829-), Rebecca (1832-1923), Anne (1834-), Emily (1837-) and Emma Ann (1838-1916). In 1838 the family were living in a ‘timber and tiled cottage near the Blue Ball public house’ in Grantchester and Simeon worked as an agricultural labourer. Edith Pratt died in early 1841, and by 1851 Simeon was living at 10 Caroline Place, Presses Garden, Cambridge with daughters Rebecca and Emily. He later went to live at 2 Provident Court with daughter Rebecca. In 1861/1871 he was described on the census as a labourer, and Rebecca was a charwoman. Simeon died at Provident Court aged 69 years old.
Elizabeth Pratt (1827 – 15 August 1888)
Elizabeth was the daughter of Simeon and Edith Pratt and was born in Grantchester. Aged 14 she was living at home, but soon after went to live at 52 Jesus Lane where she worked for Charles and Jane Cooper. Charles was Town Clerk and a solicitor and Elizabeth died at Jesus Lane at the age of 61.
Emma Ann Pratt (c.1838 – 19 March 1916)
Emma was Elizabeth’s younger sister and was also born in Grantchester. She worked as a servant for Charles and Jane Hoppett at 21 Jesus Lane (from at least 1861 – 1891). Emma then went to live with her sister Rebecca at 42 Broad Street. In 1901 and 1911 she was described on the census as a domestic servant. She died aged 78 years.
Rebecca Pratt (1832 – 15 December 1923)
Rebecca was baptised in Grantchester on 10 June 1832. She lived with her father until his death in 1872 and in 1881 was living at 19 Caroline Place. She then lived with her sister Emma at Broad Street (1901/1911) and worked as a charwoman/laundress. Rebecca died at the age of 91.
